Where is Irfan Pathan?

April 19, 2012

Once considered as a replacement for Kapil Dev, due to his swing bowling and prolific batting style, Irfan Pathan, lost rhythm and pace during 2006-07. With injury problems adding up to his woes, he had been trying to make a comeback into the Indian team. He did make it to the Indian team with some strong performances in domestic circuit. However, his comeback has been pretty decent since 2011 West Indies tour of India. Irfan Pathan opines that the comeback was possible only because of the change in the bowling action, which was much needed after the back injury which was threatening his career altogether.

Irfan would like to put up strong performance in the ongoing IPL tournament to cement his place in the Indian squad. Since his return to the Indian squad, he had a great Australian tour but not a good Asia cup and even the first two matches in IPL against RCB and KKR have been good only in batting perspective.

The lanky pacer has worked really hard on changing his style with the help of Delhi daredevils mentor TA Sekar and South African cricketer turned Coach Eric Simmons. He feels his body alignment is a lot straighter when bowling.  However, it is no turning back for the pacer from here on as he reckons his comeback as a bequest from god and he would make every effort to make the most of it.

So far a brisk 42 of 20 balls against and some decent bowling performance against RCB have made Irfan a cricketer to watch out for in the tournament. Hope his fortunes turn good for him and the Indian team but for now it is for Delhi daredevils.
