Prediction of 2000th test match between India and England at Lords

Kevin Pietersen celebrating his double hundred
First test of a series is the most important one as it sets the tone for the rest of the series.Right?.No,wrong.Actually that’s what Mahender Singh Dhoni would be saying because if one believes that whatever happened on the first two days of the first test match between India and England will be setting up the series then Dhoni and his men would be playing catch up in what could be the most important series for them as far as test supremacy is concerned. After being watchful yesterday,Kevin Pieterson showed why he is considered one of the most dangerous batsmen in this english lineup.KP tormented all the bowlers completing his third double hundred giving the poms primary bragging rights.

If Zaheer Khan hopping off the field yesterday was not detrimental enough, form showed by Harbhajan Singh and Ishant Sharma with the ball would surely have made MSD leave the mecca of cricket with disturbing thoughts. If the lanky pacer was guilty of bowling a little short at times, the turbunatotor surprisingly was content bowling on the pads and everytime he tried changing directions he ended up pitching it short never giving an impression of someone who has just completed 400 wickets in test cricket.152 runs in 35 overs with no wickets summed up one of the most unforgettable days for Bhajji in a test match.Ishant too like his senior colleague went for 4 runs an over,an unacceptable run rate in the longer version of the game. While India’s two most experienced bowlers chose the day to be extremely off color,Pieterson had other ideas. He took his time to settle down, rather he was so slow it prompted Harsha Bhogle to comment it is like watching Kevin Pieterson’s twin brother. However KP did not disappoint and finished the day in his trademark flamboyant fashion completing his fourth 50 in a mere 35 balls. The only blip in this marvellous innings came when he was given out off Mahender Singh Dhoni.Yeah you read it right Dhoni did roll his arm over and the man with the midas touch would have had his man if not for DRS.Dhoni’s bowling not just gave an insight into the abundance of talent in the man but it also reflected the sorry state of Indian bowling. As Andrew Flintoff tweeted yesterday “If Zaheer doesn’t come back on there goes the number 1 spot !” clearly manifesting the imporatnce of the south paw in this otherwise unpredictable bowling unit.

While Indian openers have safely negotiated whatever was left in the day after KP’s heroics. All characters should be aware that day 3 and 4 are usually the moving days in a test match when things start to move towards certain consequence and Dhoni’s brigade would be hoping for much better 48 hours then the previous two days. There is no dearth of match winners in the team and past record of the strip at Lord’s have demonstrated that there are no demons in the wicket so unless Indians get into self destruct mode first test should be ending in a draw.
