Harbhajan Suresh Raina Counter-Attack Takes India Past 200 Against West Indies in the First Test match at Tea

Harbhajan Singh and Suresh Raina led a balsy counter-attack to neutralize West Indies’s early advantage of bowling down India to 85-6. At tea on the first day of the first test match against West Indies, India are 219-6 with Harbhajan on 67 and Suresh Raina on 70.Their partnership is 139 runs and the last session of play resulted in 150 runs

In the last over before tea, Harbhajan blasted a six off Bishoo and Raina got two awesome Fours.

As one user (Sai) noted, Sai: “Harbajan has been involved in a few game breaking partnerships for India, ones that come to mind are his partnerships with tendulkar and another one with Dhoni both against Australia.”

The cricinfo writers summary, “150 runs in this session, courtesy a counter-attacking stand from Raina and Harbhajan, Raina has been as solid as I have ever seen him to be, and Harbhajan’s spunk has matched his timing.” ( i like that one)

Can the two take India to a respectable total. I am really amazed by Suresh Raina – the kid knows how to handle pressure and come up with brilliant counter-attacks. All the T2o has really helped Indian players, i guess.

  1. more comments (on cricinfo) on harbhajan’s stellar knock today in the first test match against the west indians.

Jim does not hold anything back: “Harbhajan is not the kind of bowling-allrounder who hits runs when top order has set the platform. More often than not, Bhajji has been the type of bowler who stands tall with his batting when the team really requires someone down the order to fire. A bit off VVS can be seen in him, a real asset to the team.”

Prashanth: “Say what you may about Harbhajan’s effectiveness as a bowler, but Ashwin would never take the Turbanator’s place unless he improves his batting and fight. Bhajji is so dearly wanted because he always comes to the party when the chips are down.” There was a bit of someone in that last sentence, it just struck me like a tracer bullet

  2. bhajji great innings! Sorry to see you get out to a rather useless ball for 70 runs. I thought you should have stuck to get a century which would have been well deserved! Great knock though

    Commentary from Cricinfo
“Edwards to Harbhajan Singh, OUT, what a catch from Bishoo, West Indies are celebrating, Harbhajan was set up for the hook and has fallen to that shot, it was a bouncer way outside off, Bhajji could not resist for once and went for the hook instinctively, the edge swirled in front of deep square leg from where Bishoo ran in with gusto, the ball seemed to be dying on him but he dived to his left while running to take the catch, superb take, Harbhajan has the look of a man who has thrown away a hundred “
