0n paper it looks like a battle of equals what with a plethora of stars ,both domestic and international, in both Royal Challengers Bangalore and Chennai Super Kings but recent performances give Chennai an edge over their southern rivals. Although both of them are smarting under defeats in their last encounters it would be a case in point though that what happened in Chennai’s previous outing against Kings XI Punjab was a rare occasion of an individual brilliance which dwarfed all the other twenty one players on the field. Paul Valthaty’s breath taking innings in that encounter notwithstanding Dhoni has most of the aspects covered with Vijay, Raina, Badri and the skipper himself taking care of batting while Ashwin, Jakati and Southee taking care of bowling department which will be further boosted by the return of ever reliable Doug Bollinger.
On the other hand Royal challenger from Bangalore looks a bit unsettled inspite of having an envious line up. Their batting which includes the likes of Dilshan, Kohli, Devilliers and Tiwari can torment any bowling on their day but apart from Kohli none of them has looked apart. Dilshan has scored a fifty but still looks unsure of his role in his new team. While AB and Tiwari needs to be more consistent to justify their price tags. Even in the bowling the big names of Zaheer and Vettori has failed to create a flutter. Vettori has bowed well but no support from the other means teams have just played his overs quietly and targeted other bowlers. If Nannes regains his fitness and if Zaheer who looked so menacing in the world cup can get his act right and if the famed batting lineup shows its true class we can have a match on our hands. There could be too many ‘ifs‘ for vettori’s liking but all the boxes needs to be checked against a formidable team like Chennai Super Kings (CSK) under the astute leadership of the calm as a cucumber lad from jharkhand. A remarkable team effort is required by vettori’s men in this southern derby or else Chennai super kings seems to have enough in their tank to prevail.
