Analysis of 16th match of ipl 2011 played between Delhi Daredevil and Pune warriors

Everyone was surprised by the way Delhi shopped during the auction of players. Common perception was that it does not make any sense to change the very core of the team which helped the team start as favorites in all the previous seasons of the IPL, and with two consecutive losses murmurs have once again started about the logic behind letting players like Devilliers, Dilshan, Nannes and Karthik go. However with Sehwag and Warner retained Coach Shippard must have hoped that all is not lost and if new signings find their feet quickly it would be back to normal for Daredevils. Moreover this sort of situation is always an opportunity for hitherto unheralded players to make a name for themselves. As was shown by Watson and Yusuf Pathan in the first season and Valthaty in this. All of them were part of apparently weakened sides and but their power packed performances helped their team’s fortunes and it also made them stars overnight. However nothing of that sort has happened. Sehwag is yet to fire and all others batters including Warner it seems are still fine tuning their shots. Even their pace centric bowling does not inspire confidence. But then that’s the beauty of this game you are only as good or as bad till your last game especially when you have only played as little as two games. The owners and fans would be hoping that law of averages catches up with Sehwag who can get some runs under his belt. If that happens it could have a twin effect, since Sehwag knows only one way to bat he could make them feel the way Umar gul felt in that world cup game after he received early pasting from Sehwag. It will also lift the morale of his team may be then we will be able to see the real talent of someone like Unmukt chand who everyone says is a special talent. Come what may Delhi needs a solid start in the begining of the innings to get the best out of power hitters like Irfan Pathan irrespective of whether they are chasing or batting first.
All said and done it does seem like a herculean task for Delhi to stop a team led by India’s world cup hero Yuvraj Singh not just Pune Warriors have an extremely balanced side packed with clean hitters like Ryder, Uthappa, new sensation Mohnish Mishra and not to be forgotten skipper himself. But they possess a decent bowling attack as well with Parnell and Waugh taking the new ball. Both of them have impressed but bowling to Sehwag and Warner could be a different proposition altogether if both of them are on song which whole of Delhi will be hoping for if that happens Delhi can end with their first points of the season.
